The Sheridan Suite Website Analysis

December 8th, 2009 by nafsar

The Sheridan Suite is one of the largest venues in North West Lancashire which can accommodate 1838 guests. The venue is situated in an ideal place, which is just over a mile from Manchester City Centre with parking for 300.

The Suite caters to no particular target audience because it holds all sorts of events from weddings, birthdays, charity events and corporate gatherings i.e. conferences, banqueting and exhibitions.

This may seem like the ‘perfect venue’ however the website shows otherwise as it does not work in the users favour. In evaluating the website I have discovered the following weaknesses;

The Sheridan Website’s First Impression…

The Sheridan Website's First Impression

…is far from Perfect.

  • The website’s layout has flaws such as the advertisement banner in between the web page links is too wide and irrelevant. The user has to scroll down in order to see the actual information for each and every page because of the banner. This banner could have been shown on either side of the website pages therefore made use of the empty gaps on both sides of the website.
  • The website has no method of contacting via the actual website; the ‘Contact us’ page is for job opportunities only not for the potential customer, the page link ‘Contact us’ is misleading. If the Sheridan suite is targeting customers with the website, customers should be able to contact them via the website.
  • Another weakness is the websites permalink which is called http://www.sheridan1838.co.uk/. This could cause confusion because the website address is not concise. If the Sheridan suite is searched on Google this permalink is shown however users may overlook this link because there is no indication of it being the actual Sheridan suite website, I personally think it sounds link a historic website.

In assessing the website, I searched for a price plan. The only mention of a price is on a PDF file. This does not classify as a price plan and the user has to go through the trouble of printing the PDF file him/herself as well, if he/she intends to go in order to fill in and hand in at the suite. The price plan is shown in the following link: http://www.sheridan1838.co.uk/sheridan/xmas.php. The business could lose potential customers due to lack of information on the website therefore requires a price plan.

I also searched for any upcoming events by visiting the ‘Coming events’ page. I discovered in a PDF file on the website that there is a Bollywood Christmas event taking place every night up until the 23rd December 2009, I tried finding this event on the actual website but could not find it. Any user on the website would look for any upcoming events in the ‘coming events’ page. Because. This proves the website is not being updated properly.

Understanding Micro-Blogging

October 19th, 2009 by nafsar

Micro-blogging is a service which enables the subscriber to broadcast messages therefore their thoughts, opinions or just general information they would like to share. What a person posts on a blog could be useless to the reader and may only be read by the subscriber him/herself however is still available for the World Wide Web.

It is also well known in social network websites such as Twitter and Jaiku. These websites have made this service available for people to post short posts which do not exceed 200 characters.  Posts are then instantly made available to a searchable network in other words everyone and anyone can see your blog.

Educators have used Twitter in a professionally-focused manner to teach their followers using the internet. It is being used to share ideas, resources and links apart from just keeping in ‘touch’. For example shout em explains how to Share Media & Materials.
